NPR One Webapp

Visual Design, Interaction Design, UX Research

Objective

The NPR One webapp serves as a conduit for audio-first (“pure-play”) social sharing and marketing promotion, intended to drive app downloads as the front of a platform conversion machine. The webapp’s underlying technology allows NPR to extend the experience to platforms beyond the browser, like connected TVs and smart home speakers.

User Research

With user testing and feedback gathered from NPR’s user community, I uncovered insights into user behaviors and motivations. I created a set of assumptions and verified them with further testing and existing metrics.

UX Strategy & Vision

I created wireframes and prototypes to share the vision, design principles and strategy. I evangelized user goals and balanced them with business goals to aid decision making.

Visual Design

Using an established design framework and patterns from NPR’s digital properties, I created a simple, responsive design with a focus on speed and user conversion.

Planning & Scope Definition

My research helped prioritize and negotiate features for launch and beyond.
