Visual Design, Interaction Design, UX Research
Objective
NPR partnered with Microsoft to update NPR One for Windows Phone to use Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform (UWP) framework. This update would increase the product’s reach into a native desktop app for the first time.
User Research
Through user testing and user community feedback, I uncovered insights into user behaviors and motivations.
UX Strategy & Vision
I created wireframes and prototypes to share the vision, design principles and strategy. I evangelized user goals and balanced them with business goals to drive decision making.
Visual Design
Using Microsoft’s design guidelines and NPR design and branding guidelines, I created a simple and scalable layout that put story imagery front and center. Unlike the mobile approach to NPR One design, the Windows desktop design is meant for users that are most likely to be using their device for multiple, immersive tasks.
Planning & Scope Definition
My research helped prioritize and negotiate features for launch and beyond.
NPR One for Windows 10 launched January 2016.
